| It's never too early to beat the 2008 Christmas rush!

|

Listen to this seller talking to YOU, personally, about his kewl items --

A collector of MANY things since a teenager, from clocks, paintings, drawings and sculptures, seashells and fossils, autographs -- and books about these things! I call all of my goodies my JUNK or TREASURES, meaning anything that I really like and find inspiration in -- and learn something from!
I have degrees as a scientist (Pleistocene geology/palaeontology = Ice Age fossils) and the acquired research skills carry over in ALL of the goodies which I still actively collect.

A lot of the things in my collections have animal motifs. Beanies and plush bears are cute and imaginative, relatively inexpensive and just plain fun! I also raised Seal Point Siamese and Sphynx cats, and had a Koi pond with some really big fish!
I taught science for over 30 years, from the grade school level to graduate courses at a Spanish University -- and had to retire prematurely due to disability. My sales of toys, books from my personal library, art works and other items from my nearly 50 years of collecting helps pay the PILES of bills which the partial pension falls short of covering! Unfortunately, while still teaching, I used my credit cards to their limits, and I can never seem to keep up with the continuing monthly payments, which like God, seem to be infinite!
And PLEASE remember that a friend, who MAY visit once or twice a week, does me a non-paid favor and takes my stuff to the post office for shipping -- I RARELY leave the apartment due to my arthritic hip - and relatively recently developed computer butt. Your new goodies are ALWAYS sent as quickly as is humanly possible. IF you are in a really big hurry, along with your payment send me a FUNCTIONAL Star Trek teleporter module for instantaneous teleporting (please send module REGISTERED to ensure delivery as my mail service isn't the best!).
And would you believe that I really have fun at this YARD SALE NET thing (in spite of the enormous workload and frequent frustration -- maybe I am just a masochist?). Someone else will appreciate and learn from an item which has meaning for me, and it does give me a nice warm feeling inside to think that they will continue enjoying some my stuff even after I am gone <<sniff>> !

It takes me MANY sleepless nights to do a small batch of my items (I do NOT have helpers for the descriptions, end-of-item details, packing or paperwork -- EXCEPT for the shipping part), and I always attempt to make the blurbs as informative, and sometimes as humorous as possible, within socially/politically-incorrect norms (you may have noticed?) -- always experimenting with different fonts, COLORS and formats to present them as appetizing to graze as I can. MOOOOOOOOOO
And PLEASE do NOT refer in your feedback to what you win as MERCHANDISE and that you thouroughly enjoyed your BUSINESS transaction! I am anything BUT a merchant or business man, and I am ONLY offering my own personal treasures 1) to help pay off some of my many recurring bills and feed the kittys -- 2) I could use the room and don't want to break a leg tripping over boxes of goodies -- 3) since I rarely go out, it gives me something to do -- 4) it helps me take my mind off many things, perhaps MORE important, that I never seem to get around to doing - thanks to YARD SALE NET!

Apple Computer first came out with the Macintosh in the 1980s. I have worked with several always cutting edge and extremely innovative models over the years (hey, and they all still work purrrrrfectly! -- oh, yeah, I have also used those copycat clunkers/foot warmers from the Dark Side, and quite frankly, they really do suck! No wonder I usually see them hidden under a table rather than sitting on top!).

I presently use 2 different Macs for my YARD SALE NET pics and item descriptions -- and three information-packed WWW domains / web sites. Since I am definitely NOT MENSA material, I wouldn't know html if it byte me -- so I use Adobe PageMill to do my web pages and eBay item blurbs FOR ME (incidently, you too can find this fabulous easy-to-use software on eBay, and usually at a really cheapo price!) My first web domain is over 8 years old, and has developed from several pages of things I am interested in to a virtual labyrinth of subjects and hopefully useful FREE information which is updated regularly. Hey -- and none of those cutesy shopping carts or paid advertising crap on MY sites! (dumb me, huh?)
** STOP IN AND VISIT ME SOME TIME **

An Eclectic Experience is filled with all kinds of personal tidbits about me and my collections -- as well as my own brand of humor and somewhat meticulous, sometimes convoluted sense of presentation. And while you are there, CHECK OUT what I hope may be helpful hints for successful online * buying * selling * trading *, including auctions, WITH samples of forms for organizing your hobbies, files and even cataloging your collections.

I added a section on the PITFALLS of online deals, just to give you an idea of what may go wrong -- and sometimes does!! Boy, do I have to update THAT part one of these days!
| Who reads books anymore?
Anybody who has an ongoing active interest in any subject, be it antiques, art, jewelry, toys, sports, photography or collectibles of any flavor! Since before the Library of Alexandria until now, collectors, those who sell things, students and researchers need this info for obvious reasons. After a few years, your book shelves, filing cabinets and drawers of index cards become filled -- not to mention the space that these storage artifacts take up.
I have many and wide-ranging interests and have always tried to read/learn as much as I could about them -- I have always been a real data/info packrat, and preferred having the books right on my own shelves rather than looking for them at a distant library and having to return them again! My book shelves must number at least 100 (not even counting the scores of boxes!), and I have 10 five-drawer legal-size filing cabinets overflowing with stuff!
You may notice the frequent mention of personal computer database in a lot of my item descriptions. THINK ABOUT IT -- how many books, index cards and file folders filled with info do you have on your favorite topic? How long does it take you to find a specific thing when you really have to? Now imagine that all of this information, including pics, could be contained on one or a couple CD/DVDs, which take up very little space -- and you only have to type in a search word or two (just as you do on YARD SALE NET) to have everything that is related, from all those reference sources right in front of you on your computer screen in an instant! How I wish I could have started the database thing 20 years ago - but the smaller/faster computers/laptops and the present day possibilities of refined relational database application programs weren't even imaginable back then! |
